Built between 1666 and 1679, the Castle of Good Hope features a distinct pentagonal star shape. You will find stone ramparts, centuries-old bell towers, and open courtyards inside this military fort.

This ornate balcony was originally built in 1695 and rebuilt between 1786 and 1790. Officials used it to make announcements to soldiers and townspeople gathered below. Look for the 'Kings of the Castle' statues in the courtyard directly in front of the balcony.

Constructed in 1684 over the main entrance, this tower holds the oldest bell in South Africa. The bell was cast in Amsterdam in 1697 and weighs over 300 kilograms (660 lbs). Historically, people could hear it ring from 10 kilometers away.
